A Little Bit of Heaven. Alot of Peace of Mind!

We are fortunate to have had exceptional resources to rely on for information, supplies, construction and just plain old support throughout this life-changing project. We are certain that, had we not had "the best of the best" working with us, this project would never have run so smoothly or been as successful as it has been to-date! We are very grateful to everyone listed below as well as those we do not list, but did play a part in this effort.

To help others have the same pleasant experience, we are pleased to provide, for your reference, the following contacts and sources of information:

  • Morningdale Collies This is the website for Kathy's kennel. Her website is still being built, but if you want to learn about Collies and actually see some very beautiful full-bred Collies, visit this site often!
  • Jonas Construction Although Steve Jonas does not have a website - yet, the success of this project would never have been achieved without Steve and his crew. Steve's meticulous craftsmanship and honesty are just incredible! Steve is the BEST and you should consider him for your construction needs as well!
  • Kuhns Bros. Log Homes Kuhns Bros was our log home kit supplier. Having lived for over 11 years in Montgomery, PA, we were only minutes from their headquarters and model home in Lewisburg, PA. We visited that model home many times and always said "someday we would own such a home." Well, that dream is becoming a reality now!
  • Kress GMAC Real Estate We were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to find an extremely talented, honest, and attentive realtor! Marlan Jones "connected" us to our 50-acre tract of land and we will be forever grateful for his perseverance in showing the entire property in 20 inches of snow and 10°F temperatures. That is dedication and commitment!  Check out the Kress website for your real estate needs and ask for Marlan if you are buying or selling  - we recommend them!
  • ARXX Foundation Systems Steve Jonas, introduced us to this foundation technology from Canada. The foundation system offers many advantages, of which a R21 insulation value was especially advantageous for minimizing our heating and cooling costs. When compared to the cost of a standard poured concrete foundation, we believe the ARXX system's slightly higher installation cost is easily offset by the savings in heating and cooling costs.
  • Form-a-Drain Another one of the innovative products that Steve incorporated into our house was Certainteed's Form-a-Drain foundation drainage system.  This system is used in lieu of wooden forms when pouring the concrete footers and is left in-place after the footers are cured, thereby becoming the foundation drainage system!
  • Trumbull Industries This is another of the suppliers Steve recommended. Our contact at their Meadville, PA, center was Denny. He was terrific in helping with the design of our kitchen and baths such that they met our needs, looked "showy", were of excellent quality/construction, and were of moderate cost.
  • Lumber Liquidators Kathy and I researched hardwood floors for over six months and were becoming annoyed with the high prices we were getting on solid Hickory floors. Finally, we discovered Lumber Liquidators! If you cannot find what you want at a reasonable price, check them out, you will find the prices, quality and warranty (30 year on ours) very attractive!
